For Bandcamp Friday, the Flatbush-based noise-improv duo presents its first trumpet+cello track, and its first archival rollout of the season. As with every first Friday, 100% goes back to the artists, so please consider supporting slashsound as well as all your favorite indie labels today!!
skullcap5050 recorded Lens Flare on a sweltering summer afternoon in 2018 to evoke the similarly arid concrete landscape. Swirls of grain and air, by way of textured loops on both musicians' channels, lay the sonic foundation for Lens Flare, before trumpet and cello exchange earthy melodies that kick up in momentum. At the peak of the 13 minute arc, a dust storm of consonant layers touches the double rainbow hanging over the city before settling in a smooth landing onto the simmering Flatbush pavement.
Originally excerpted for 2018's slashsound1.1 mixtape (
slashsound.bandcamp.com/album/slashsound11), Lens Flare has been remastered for 2020 and marks the first archival release from the versatile duo's years-long recording collection.
